Falcon Field Petition

PETITION TO HELP KEEP FALCON FIELD SAFE

To: Mesa Mayor, City Council, City Manager, and other controlling legal authorities:

Whereas Falcon Field has been overwhelmed by flight operations of a single flight training academy impacting expanding areas of Mesa previously unaffected by general aviation activity;

And whereas those flight operations:

• Generate unacceptable levels of risk, air pollution and noise pollution;
• Adversely impact the health, well-being, quality of life, and property values of residents;
• Do not contribute substantial positive net economic benefits to Mesa or to Falcon Field;

We petition the Mesa Mayor, City Council and City Manager to enact measures to:

• Form a Falcon Field Oversight Committee with representation from impacted neighborhoods, municipal officials, Falcon Field representatives and other appropriate and informed members to promote/oversee the future development at Falcon Field, and to structure and frame general aviation usage fees and overrides on airport users.
• Limit the introduction of any new flight training schools of any number and require that they obtain a 'Council Use Permit' from the Mesa City Council prior to commencing any operations.
• Establish restrictions on touch and go operations by commercial flight schools;
• Eliminate any commercial flight schools operating with greater than 10 aircraft;
• Ensure a fair and equitable system of controls with checks and balances to ensure the strategic and economic growth of Falcon Field as a quality general aviation airport, promoting the safety and well-being of nearby neighborhoods and communities.
